Three ways to prove age

  With passport or ID card

  For customers with a passport or ID card – and so for tourists too. Age checks by Austrian bank card only know Austrian cards; the chip in an ID works for visitors from anywhere.

  Look for the chip symbol: passports and ID cards with this symbol carry the chip we read – for 112 issuing states, including all 27 EU states.

  1. Code lines to the cameraThe code lines are read by the camera, on the device, offline. They are the key to the chip.
  2. ID on the readerFor 112 issuing states, including all 27 EU states, we check that the chip data is signed by the issuing state and unchanged: the same cryptographic signature check as a border scanner.
  3. Look into the cameraThe live face is compared with the passport photo from the chip.

  For customers with ID Austria: confirm on their own phone, then a face match at the machine.

  For your regulars: checked once, then the face is enough. No ID, no phone.

What you get

• Retrofitted via MDB: Your machine needs an MDB interface. Reader and camera go on the machine door; we do the installation.
• The check: The chip in the passport or ID card is read; for 112 issuing states, including all 27 EU states, we check that the chip data is signed by the issuing state and unchanged. Plus a face match with liveness detection. Alternatively: ID Austria.

Do you support TCN machines?

Is this allowed?

The authorities describe the age check at the machine this way: ID or ID Austria plus face match (§ 114 GewO, ministry clarification of 5 June 2026). Legal basis (German)

Do you sell beer and wine from machines?

Alcohol may not be sold from a vending machine (§ 52 (2) GewO). For that there is Click & Collect. Click & Collect for operators

What does it cost?

There are no software or licence fees; you only pay for the hardware – and we discuss that openly with you.
